Rest For the Counselor

July 8, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

This workshop will explore compassion fatigue, secondary traumatization, and the rest that Jesus offers and invites us into as counselors.

In a profession where we are called to bear others’ burdens, how can we do so without

becoming too heavy laden ourselves? How do we avoid burnout when much is required

of us as counselors? We will explore compassion fatigue, secondary traumatization,

and the rest that Jesus offers and invites us into as counselors. It is a rest that is just

what our souls need – and it is what will help us to sustain a long-term commitment to

our calling as counselors.

About the Speaker:

Heather is married to Seth and is the mama of twin daughters. She is the author of Rest: Creating Space for Soul Refreshment (P&R, 2024), Unashamed: Healing Our Brokenness and Finding Freedom from Shame (Crossway, 2016) and Domestic Abuse: Help for Victims (New Growth Press, 2019). She enjoys walks with her gentle giant of a dog (Bernedoodles are the best!), writing, coffee, deep conversations, travel, the beach, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. She works as a counselor at Mountain View Christian Counseling, enjoying the privilege and opportunity to walk alongside others in their stories and struggles.
