A Q&A with Cassia Gilbert
Can you tell us about the counseling you do?
I do individual counseling with adolescents and adults. My heart is to walk alongside others as they navigate the complexities of life. Whether it is working through unresolved pain, adjusting to life transitions, or struggling with anxiety and depression, my desire is to provide a space of comfort and support. While difficulty and suffering are inescapable in this life, I believe nothing is wasted when placed in God’s redemptive care. My goal in counseling is to offer practical tools and guidance to help clients in their unique journey of growth and healing.
How have the shared resources of Christian faith deepened or strengthened the care you are able to provide to believing clients?
I believe every individual reflects the image of God. It is in Him that we truly understand our identity and value. Apart from Him, the pain we experience living in a broken world can be very disorienting. My desire as a Christian counselor is to partner with the Holy Spirit to bring healing, redemption, and purpose that can only be found in Christ. In a counseling session, this looks like incorporating the truth of Scripture into conversation and praying with clients in a way that feels comfortable and aligned with their faith background.
What would you tell someone who is interested in counseling but is hesitant to start, if it might involve opening up about painful things?
Starting counseling can feel intimidating, especially when the process is unfamiliar. It can be helpful to know that I move at the pace of my clients. Vulnerability becomes easier as trust is built. I aim to provide a safe environment for my clients to open up about painful things when they feel equipped and ready to do so. It can also be helpful to know that pain does not have to be held forever or faced alone. My desire is to provide comfort as Christ’s love is invited to do the work of healing and restoration.
